Interfilm Academy Munich
One Future Award 2009

The award ceremony of the One Future Award is taking place
at the Gasteig (Black Box)
on Saturday, 4 July 2009 at 1 pm.

The One Future Award 2009, donated by the Interfilm Academy Munich, goes to the Italian director Marco Pontecorvo for his film PA-RA-DA (The Clown). This film, which is based on a true story, is about the French-Algerian clown Miloud Oukili, who travels to Bukarest in the 1990s setting up a circus project with street urchins there.

The director succeeds in developping the storyline authentically and plausibly in his debut feature, after having researched thoroughly into the topic. The staging and the convincing acting of the children and the adult clowns mesmerize the audience in a personal way. Marco Pontecorvo finds a rhythm in camera work, framing and cutting that does justice both to the disorientation and the hope of the "drain kids".

The clown dedicates himself perseveringly to these children, who are forsaken by Romanian society, and offers them the possibility of opening up and expressing their talents voluntarily. While experiencing trust and respect for the first time, the children find a space for a shared future with adults through their art and creativity: One Future.
