One Future Award 2024 to „Petra Kelly – Act Now!“
The people of our century have a single indivisible future – One Future. In this spirit, the One Future Award is presented each year to a film from the Filmfest Munich program that implements this idea in an ethically and aesthetically convincing way. The Interfilm Academy Munich e.V. presented awards for the 39th time as part of the 41st Munich Film Festival on July 3, 2024.
Award winner
The One Future Award 2024 goes to the film Petra Kelly – Act Now! by Doris Metz (Germany 2024).
Explanation:
With analytical and ethical competence, German director Doris Metz succeeds in creating a passionate documentary about Petra Kelly, her life, her intensive political work and her tragic fate from extensive archive material. It becomes clear how Petra Kelly became a symbolic figure of the German environmental and peace movement in the 1980s, a charismatic politician and visionary (1947-1992) who did not describe herself as a politician, but as a political person.
Growing up in the 1960s, she fought as a student in Robert Kennedy’s election campaign team. Back in Germany, she fought just as passionately at all political levels as an active member of citizens‘ initiatives, as co-founder of the Green Party, as a member of the Bundestag in Bonn, in peace demonstrations against the nuclear threat and as winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize in 1982.
Doris Metz deliberately lets authentic contemporary witnesses have their say and shows Petra Kelly as a global activist and fighter for human rights, justice, equality and non-violence and for the ecological movement. The cinematic portrait of this strong-willed and passionate personality who wanted change rouses us to civil disobedience and at the same time shamefully shows us as viewers what we as fellow human beings have neglected and suppressed in recent decades out of convenience.
The film should be shown and discussed everywhere in cinemas, schools, academies, churches, etc., because it manifests the topicality and modernity in the thinking of this great woman, who rejected “politics as a business”, which is still rampant everywhere today. This film is both a call and a program for a common, better future, also in the spirit of her last book “Thinking with the Heart – Texts for a Credible Future.” ONE FUTURE!

Honorary award
The One Future Honorary Award 2024 goes posthumously to the global activist Petra Kelly for her tireless social commitment.
Explanation:
Petra Kelly was a fighter for peace without respect for conventions, a global activist for the protection of the environment who was far ahead of her time. We must not suppress Petra Kelly’s analyses and visions, but put them into practice: ONE FUTURE – ACT NOW!
One Future Award 2014 to „The Salt of the Earth“
The One Future Award 2014 is being awarded to the film The Salt of the Earth by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado.
Motivation:
Three voices and three perspectives come together in this artistically designed documentation: Wim Wenders‘ own, the one of his co-director Juliano Ribeiro Salgado and the one of his father, the great photographer Sebastião Salgado.
A both fascinating and shocking picture of the past 50 years developes parallel to Salgado’s biography: from famines in Africa via poverty in South America to the refugee crises in the Sahel, the genocide in Rwanda and the most recent European disaster in the Balkans.
Despite this shattering résumé the film succeeds in subtle ways to pick the audience up at the valley of resignation and to hint at a possible path into the future, in the spirit of „justice, peace and integrity of creation.“ Salt of the Earth combines aesthetics and ethics in a humanely convincing manner, so that the viewer – from which culture, region and religion whatsoever – takes courage not to give up, but to work for the future of the world.
Commendations:
